ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KNSI) - Crews are busy making the final preparations for the 70th annual St. Cloud Area July 4th Fireworks display.

The barge that will hold the $30,000 worth of pyrotechnics for this year's show, is now on the Mississippi River.

Getting the barge assembled and in place on the Mississippi is not a small task, but thanks to volunteers and Landwehr Construction who donated one of their largest cranes, the barge is ready to be loaded up.

"So we need a crane, and then it takes a crew of about 15 volunteers to assemble it, it's about 6 1/2 hours of work to put this thing together and make it ready," said Jason Bernick, Chairman of the St. Cloud Fireworks Display.

You can watch the fireworks on the 4th from either Wilson Park or Hester Park, where there will be food vendors and concerts before the fireworks launch at 10:00 pm.

Bernick says there are some brand new fireworks that they haven't used before in this year's show.

The St. Cloud Area July 4th Fireworks have become a mid-summer tradition in the Granite City, with thousands of people taking in the patriotic display each year.

"I just know that people love it, and people go out of their way to come here, it's a great venue for this display, people come from all around the area, there's over 40,000 people that we estimate come out here."

KNSI will be broadcasting the fireworks show live and set to music. Video from last year's show is below.
