ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KNSI) - A man found sleeping in a St. Cloud school is accused of burglary.

On Wednesday at 6:41 a.m. police were called to the Math and Science Academy at 1025 18th Street North where a staff member found a man on the floor of the staff lounge.

Police say 29-year-old Derek Lamar Michael Demps, no permanent address, had food wrappers strewn about the lounge and it appeared that several classrooms were entered because many items were out of place.

A backpack belonging to Demps was found in the school.

Police say inside the backpack they found four prescription bottles of medication that didn’t belong to him.

Investigators say he entered the school through a gym door that was accidentally left unlocked.

He is charged with 2nd degree burglary and 5th degree drug possession.
