St. Cloud, Minn (KNSI) - A good sized crowd came out for the dedication of an American Flag drop box at the Texas Roadhouse in Waite Park Wednesday morning.

The box, and three others in the area, were made possible by Vietnam Veteran Jim Kowitz, who raised $3,200 for the project, "Anybody can stop by anytime and just open up the door on the top and drop a flag in," said Kowitz. "These are very well made, secure boxes that are weather proof."

The boxes can be found at St. Cloud City Hall, The East Side VFW, the Whitney Senior Center and the Texas Roadhouse in Waite Park.

Vietnam Veteran Jolene Simmons of St. Cloud was at the dedication with her grandchildren Kyler and Kaylen, "like I was telling my grandchildren, you don't throw away older, worn out veterans, and you don't throw away older, worn out American Flags."

She says it was very special to be there with her grandchildren, "This is how their parents and grandparents have raised them up, to have love for their country and understanding of the symbols of our country."

Flags dropped in the boxes will be taken to Camp Ripley, which has a disposal system, where they'll be properly disposed of by burning.
