ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KNSI) The Canada goose population in Minnesota is very high and is exceeding statewide goals, and with that in mind, the Department of Natural Resources is holding its first-ever August Canada goose season starting this Saturday.

DNR waterfowl specialist Steve Cordts says in addition to the high population, they're also getting an increasing number of complaints from farmers that the geese are munching on their crops.

The season will run from August 10th to August 25th in an "intensive harvest zone" that runs from the western Twin Cities area through the St. Cloud on Highway 10, and north to the Wadena, Bagley and Crookston areas.

Cordts says the bag limit is ten geese daily.

A small game hunting license, special goose permit and state waterfowl stamp are required.
