ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KNSI) Halloween is a day that can be greatly enjoyed by kids and adults alike, but how about our pets?

Not so much according to Vicki Davis, executive director of Tri-County Humane Society in St. Cloud.

Davis says people, "have masks on, and are different shapes, and it just doesn't look right," so "the first instinct of an animal is to be concerned about it and scared."

Davis says all the coming and going from a house by trick or treaters can set them off too. She says, "my dog in particular, someone knocking on the door or ringing the doorbell sends her through the roof. She's on duty all the time. "

She says it's a good idea to greet guests as they come to the door, and put your pet into an area of the house that's further away, and turn on the radio or television so they're kept away from it.

Davis says it's also a good idea to keep the treat bowl away from your pet. She says dark chocolate can be of particular danger to pets. She says too much sugar can, "upset their digestive system."
