ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KNSI)  Minnesota Climatologist Mark Seeley says parts of the state are on the cusp of sinking back into drought status after a very dry summer.

Seeley says when the updated U.S. Drought Monitor map is released Thursday, he says "it's not wild speculation" to believe that the map will show an expansion of the abnormally dry landscape area, and some areas of the state in moderate drought conditions.

Seeley says the driest part of the state is the northwest corner, from Clay through Polk Counties. He says central Minnesota is also dry.

St. Cloud has received only .58 of an inch of rain in August, which is 1.72 inches below normal.
