ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KNSI) St. Cloud Regional Airport writes a new chapter in its history Wednesday with the launch of air service to Sanford International Airport in Orlando, Florida.

Allegiant Airlines will fly twice-weekly to Orlando, on Wednesdays and Saturdays. That service will back off to Saturday-only flights in January, and then move back to twice-weekly flights in the spring.

Airport manager Bill Towle says advance bookings have been good. He says he's talked to Allegiant about the bookings, and, "they're happy with them and excited to begin this service."

Towle says service to Phoenix--which has been in place for a year--means not much additional work is required for the Orlando route. He says TSA service is in place,  the airline folks and their equipment are in place. He says it should be pretty much a "routine day" Wednesday, except the plane will be going to Orlando instead of Phoenix.

The initial flight is scheduled to depart around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.
