SARTELL, Minn. (KNSI) After a slow start this spring due to inclement weather, construction crews have been able to catch up and get back on schedule with construction of the new diverging diamond interchange at the intersection of Highway 15 and Stearns County Road 120 in Sartell.

MnDOT Construction Supervisor Tim Paul says the contracted completion date is October 21st, and he sasy the general contractor--Landwehr Construction "is anticipating they'll meet that."

The project will reach another benchmark next week. Starting Monday, the installation of 22 bridge beams will begin. That will be following by construction of the new bridge decking. Paul says it's possible that traffic could be moved off the temporary bypass and onto the new Highway 15 by late September.

He says the final piece to the project will be some landscaping work that could stretch into 2014.

A diverging diamond interchange allows two directions of traffic to temporarily cross to the left side of the road, and moves high volums of traffic through an intersection without increasing the number of lanes. Pedestrians will cross the bridge using a center island.

Paul says traffic flow won't change until late September

Paul says it should be an aesthetically pleasing project
