ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KNSI) Eric Rud was introduced as the new women's hockey coach at St. Cloud State University on Thursday.

The Inver Grove Heights native takes over for Jeff Giesen, whose contract was not renewed.

Giesen is no stranger to SCSU, or the Western Collegiate Hockey Association. He was an assistant coach for the Huskies men's program under Bob Motzko for five years beginning in 2005. He most recently was an assistant coach at Colorado College--his alma mater.

Rud calls it, "a great honor to come back to the state of hockey, to be a Division one head coach in a beautiful facility to recruit to and play in."

Rud has been in coaching for more than a dozen years, but it's the first time he'll coach a women's team. Rud says as a coach, "you have to be adaptable to whatever the situation is." He says part of his strength as a coach is his ability to< "change and adapt."

Rud and his wife Amy have three children, Sam, Gabbie and Max. Rud was a two-time WCHA Defensive Player of the Year at Colorado College and played professional hockey from 1997 to 2002.
