ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KNSI)  St. Cloud Mayor Dave Kleis estimates 400 to 500 trees were lost on city property in that severe thunderstorm that rolled through the city during the early morning hours of June 21st.

He says the storm cost the city about $180,000, mostly in overtime costs for city staff, along with contracted work for tree and branch removal.

The mayor says the city will seek a federal declaration to help with the cleanup costs.

The storm hit just days before St. Cloud's Granite City Days, and staff worked hard to get everything cleaned up before then.

He says a determination has not been made yet on how many trees on city property will be replanted, but he says some replanting will take place in parks and boulevards, similar to what occurred after trees blew down in a storm that hit the city two years ago.
