ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KNSI) Forecasters are saying the Upper Midwest will feel the effects of a summertime polar vortex next week.

Minnesota climatologist Mark Seeley says very cold air, "born in high latitude" will be steered into the region by northwest winds.

He says on Monday through Wednesday of next week, some areas of northern Minnesota might not get out of the 50's for high temperatures. Normal highs this time of year are in the low 80's.

He says there will be enough wind to keep many overnight record lows from being broken, but he says temps in the 30's are possible in parts of Minnesota.

Seeley says temperatures should moderate to near normal levels by Thursday of next week.
