ANOKA, Minn. (AP) - Authorities have identified a man who died in an apartment fire in Anoka early Saturday morning.

The Anoka County medical examiner's office says 61-year-old John Reuben Pebworth died in the fire, which began in his unit in an apartment complex. Authorities say other residents tried to rescue him after reporting the fire around 4 a.m., but could not get in his apartment because of heavy smoke and fire.

Authorities say foul play doesn't appear to be a factor, although the exact cause of the fire is still unknown.

The fire was confined to his unit and the other residents escaped. It's still under investigation by the state fire marshal, the Anoka-Champlin Fire Department and the sheriff's office.
