ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KNSI) - Beaver Island Brewery is expanding to a 10,000 square foot production and canning facility, so they can offer their brews in liquor stores this summer.

"It's quite a big step for us, but what's more important about the space is the footprint, and that we have extra capacity so we're able to do canned package products," Co-founder Nick Barth said.

The craft beer makers are moving into the new $1.07 million production facility in the St. Cloud Airport Industrial Park with hopes of getting their beers to liquor stores by June.

They might be able to get their cans to liquor stores by Memorial Day, but Barth says that would be a huge achievement.

"We're going to be offering three cans to begin with, Ripple, 39 Red IPA and Sweet Miss which is our chocolate oatmeal stout," Barth said.

Barth says they have exceeded their wildest dreams in just their second year, but he's heard from plenty of central Minnesotans urging him to can their product.

"I think there's so many people begging for that can of Ripple out on the lake."

The new brewery will triple the amount of beer Beaver Island is able to produce each year.

The taproom off 6th Avenue South will remain open and serve as the brewery's seasonal and small batch production facility.
