ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KNSI) Chilly and windy conditions will greet anglers on the opening day of Minnesota's walleye and northern pike fishing season. Temperatures will be in the 40's up north, with northwest winds gusting over 30 mph.

Governor Dayton is in Park Rapids this weekend for the annual Governor's Fishing Opener. He took part in a community picnic Friday, and will be fishing on the Fish Hook River in the Park Rapids area today.

Large lakes in northern Minnesota known for producing some of the state's top walleyes--are still ice-covered due to wintry weather that extended through April. But those ice conditions are deteriorating, and the DNR is not recommending people venture out onto the ice to fish this weekend.
