ST. CLOUD, MN (KNSI) – From now, through September, the St. Cloud City Council will spend much of its time putting together the city's 2013 budget.

Early signs and trends point to a tightening of the spending belt throughout the budget.

"We look at property valuations have declined about 4.5% for budget year 2013, so we have more reductions to make and some partnerships to create and some efficiency also to create,” Mayor Dave Kleis said.

The task at hand is obvious; present a balanced budget reflecting long standing priorities for the City of St. Cloud. But Kleis said the council will also take into account needs and priorities that surfaced from the city survey.

“The priorities that our survey also mentioned, public safety, infrastructure and job creation,” Kleis said. “So that is the budget that we will be presenting."

To add to the discussion, the city has set up a budget suggestion phone line that people can call with their opinions. That number is 650-3152.
