ST. CLOUD, MN (KNSI) - All Minnesota legislative seats are up for election in November. The Legislature will take on a new look in 2013 thanks to the retirements of dozens of lawmakers, and redistricting that has redrawn political boundaries.

The Minnesota Republican party has been working to ensure they have plenty of candidates in the running for those spots up for grabs.

House Majority Leader Matt Dean of Dellwood says finding qualified candidates is a crucial as they attempt to hold majority power in both chambers of the Legsislature....

"We have very good recruiting going on across the state," Dean said. "We have open seats because we have a brand new map, so all 201 legislators are up for re-election."

Despite the uncertainty the open seats may bring to the Republican majority, Dean is heavily in favor of the fresh faces and ideas that can come from redistricting.

"Whenever you have a redistricting year you have a lot of turnover," Dean said. "That is a good thing, to get new people in the process and kind of shake things up every ten years, it's a good idea."

The filing period for elected offices goes through June 5th.
