ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KNSI) - The Minnesota Department of Public Safety, and other agencies, will be participating in a nuclear incident drill at the Monticello Nuclear Generating Plant.

The drill on Tuesday will test the capabilities of federal, state and local agencies in the event of an emergency.

People in the area should not be alarmed when they see a variety of field activities taking place in and around the plant in Sherburne and Wright Counties.

The State Emergecny Operations Center in St. Paul will be activated for the drill.

Officials say the drill is important because, in the unlikely event of a nuclear plant incident, emergency responders, plant operators and state officials will need to work together for an efficient and effective response to protect area residents.
