MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Minneapolis officials plan to plant a tree in the yard of a woman whose husband died in the 2011 tornado to mark the first anniversary.
The tornado that struck north Minneapolis last May 22nd damaged 3,700 properties.
Mayor R.T. Rybak, City Council President Barbara Johnson and others will plant the tree Tuesday in the yard of Janet Carstens, whose husband Rob MacIntyre died while helping neighbors clean up. Floyd David Whitfield also died in the storm.
The Northside Community Response Team, which helped in the response and recovery, will also host an event Tuesday. The Star Tribune reports the group is encouraging tornado survivors to bring items from the storm, a photo or other remnant to be used to construct a memorial.
The event will also feature survivors' stories.
