MOORHEAD, Minn. (AP) The next five-year farm bill is progressing in the U.S. House, but still faces some hurdles, according to Rep. Collin Peterson.

The congressman is the ranking Democrat from Minnesota on the House Agriculture Committee. Peterson says a conference committee could begin working on the differences between the House and Senate versions of the bill by August.

But, he says the bill is "not out of the woods yet." Peterson says there are questions about opposition to the House version from Republicans who want more spending cuts and from Democrats who don't support cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.

Peterson expects a multitude of amendments when the bill comes up in the House in a few weeks. He hopes the majority will approved a rule to limit amendments.
