ST. CLOUD (KNSI) - The St. Cloud Fire Department is looking at arson as a potential cause of an early morning car fire on the city's south side.

Crews responded to a call about the fire just after 6:30 a.m. on Friday, which destroyed a black 2007 Monte Carlo at 515 6th Avenue South.

The vehicle was in a backyard parking area. No one was injured, but two cars nearby received damage.
Evan Lindberg is one of the residents of the house which reported the fire, and a roommate of the car's owner. He tells KNSI he awoke to a car horn going off in the backyard, and when he looked outside, the car was already engulfed in flames.

Lindberg says he noticed an open door on the vehicle as it burned.

"We're definitely suspicious," Lindberg says. "The door was opened - someone definitely lit the fire."

The Fire Department's Greg Newinski says the St. Cloud Fire Marshal is now investigating the fire as "suspicious," due in part to a series of intentional south side fires over the last several months, mainly targeting dumpters.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Arson Hotline at 1-800-723-2020.
