ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KNSI) - A Cold Spring firefighter died in an off-duty accident over the weekend.

Chad Michael Kraemer, 40, was killed when he fell from a sliding glass door to a concrete patio below.

The Stearns County Sheriff's Office says deputies responded to a residence in Collegeville Township near Big Fish Lake at 4:42 Sunday morning on the report that Kraemer had fallen 10-12 feet from the door to the patio.

The Cold Spring Fire Department responded and tried to treat Kraemer, but his injuries were too severe and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Family members said Kraemer went to bed sometime between 11 p.m. and midnight.

The exact time of the fall is unknown.

The sheriff's office says the sliding glass door is a deck door type slider, but there is no deck or elevated patio associated with the door and there was no barrier preventing use of the door.
