ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KNSI) - The Greater St. Cloud Development Corporation has a new leader with a familiar name.

Patti Gartland tells KNSI she submitted her resignation as Sartell's City Administrator today, and will step into her new role as president of the GSDC.

Gartland has been Sartell's administrator for 12 years, leading the community through infrastructure changes, the creation of businesses like Wal-Mart and Sam's Club and attracting Health Partners and other medical service providers.

Most recently, Gartland has devoted time to working closely with local, state and federal agencies in guiding over 250 displaced workers in the wake of the Verso Paper Mill explosion and subsequent closure, and working with the new property owners on development plans for the site.

She says watching the city grow and develop through the years has been very rewarding.

"We've transitioned from predominantly a bedroom community to much more of a full-service community," Gartland says. "We've grown our commercial and industrial tax base phenomenally. We have a much more diverse offering of housing options. So I think the growth we've facilitated, and the quality of that growth, has been exceptional."

Gartland is no stranger to the work of the GSDC. She was instrumental in helping develop the now just over 2 year old organization.

"I was part of a group that went to Dubuque, Iowa in 2010 to find out about the model they were using for their community development, and what made it so successful," Gartland says. "As a result, the GSDC was born. I've been part of it since day one, so it's exciting to move into this role as president and help advance the mission and vision."

Gartland is a lifelong St. Cloud-area resident and a graduate of St. Cloud State University.

She will officially assume her new role on June 1st.

The Greater St. Cloud Development Corporation is a public-private partnership of 97 organizations, which has most recently been instrumental in projects such as securing regular air service to the St. Cloud Regional Airport and attracting German manufacturer Geringhoff.
