ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KNSI) - St. Cloud's 'Cookie Girl' received some much deserved recognition at Summertime By George on Wednesday night.

Sophina Lindquist's smiling face was put up on the jumbo screen, and she received a round of applause, ahead of her mom Connie singing the National Anthem.

The rest of Central Minnesota is just now getting to know the amazing 8-year-old, but area police officers, firefighters and paramedics have been friends with her for a few years, ever since she started bringing them homemade chocolate chip cookies.

Connie says Sophina, who has Down syndrome, has become quite the VIP at the St. Cloud Police Department.

"She doesn't have to have a cop with her anymore when she stops by, just Mom and Sophina walking around taking cookies wherever, and they let us in and out wherever we want to go...except for the evidence room."

The little girl has become so loved by police officers that they pooled their money to buy a little electric squad car for Sophina.

Her mom joked that Sophina can't drive worth beans and ran over her foot the last time they fired up the mini squad car.

Connie says Sophina loves the gift, but doesn't fully understand why officers and firefighters give her things.

"She's like, why are you buying me a present, I'm here to do cookies!"

Connie says Sophina's love affair with the people who keep us safe everyday continues to grow, with them adding more departments to the dozens they already stop by with cookies.
