ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KNSI) - The Granite City Lumberjacks are ready to drop the puck on their 11th season in the North American Tier 3 Hockey League.

The Lumberjacks are coming off an excellent season where they won the league title and are looking to defend the Silver Cup.

Head Coach and General Manager Brad Willner says his players can't wait for Saturday night against Alexandria at the Armadillo Deck Sports Arena in Sauk Rapids.

"I think everyone is excited to get back going again this year and get the season going, I mean obviously there was some success last year and we have some of those returners with our guys this year, but the thing is they want to win another one," Willner said.

One of those players returning from last year's championship season is leading scorer Owen Sikich (pictured below).

"Everyone so far this year has been pretty excited, even before the season starts in our first practice, everyone is just antsy to get back on the ice, everyone is just ecstatic and we're ready to play," Sikich said.

Puck drop on Saturday night's season opener is scheduled for 7:30 p.m., and the Lumberjacks are expecting another big crowd from some of the best fans in the league, as Sikich puts it.

"They love us, they support us in everything, they come to our away games, just an all around great community, and playing here has been a privilege because it's more of a family than just a team."
