SAUK RAPIDS, Minn. (KNSI) - Brad Gunderson is officially the new mayor of Sauk Rapids.

The mayor elect took the official oath during Monday night's city council meeting at the Sauk Rapids City Goverment Center.

Gunderson tells KNSI News that the major priorities for the council during the next two years focus heavily on transportation projects, already in the works.

"I'm really looking forward to making transportation run better," Gunderson says. "We have a major roundabout project, and are working on connecting Summit Avenues South and North. Those are two really big projects, and I'm excited to see them move forward."

Gunderson says he has been watching and participating in city government for many years, even before he lived in Sauk Rapids. He says he plans to do away with speech making, and take a more discussion-based approach to leadership.

"I started watching Sauk Rapids City meetings, and I knew that was it - it was the right time to get involved."

Gunderson was sworn in alongside freshmen council members Nick Sauer and Steve Heinen, followed by the unanimous approval of appointee Kurt Hunstiger, who served on the council from 2001 through 2007.
