ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KNSI) - Hotelier and St. Cloud native Jim Graves officially kicked off his campaign for the DFL endorsement for a 6th Congressional District seat Tuesday, taking sharp aim at Representative Michele Bachmann and her record.

Graves made the announcement Tuesday surrounded by family and friends at the Le St. Germain Suite Hotel in St. Cloud, one of nine hotels and resorts owned and managed by Graves' company Grave Hospitality.

"I will stand toe to toe, face to face, bring out the facts and debate with Michele Bachmann what's best for the 6th District. It's time we get back to work," Graves said.

Graves, who started his company in St. Cloud before moving to Minneapolis nearly a decade ago, said his campaign will focus on creating for living wage jobs for the district and ensuring a strong middle class.

Graves said he planned to relocate to the district "soon" and criticized Bachmann for her lack of appearance in St. Cloud and the rest of her district while she campaigned in her unsuccessful presidential run.

"Where has she been?" Graves said. "She’s been running a campaign in Iowa."

"We're not going to be looking at this job as a stepping stone or a platform for other political reasons or a personal agenda. We're going to be 100 percent, roll up your sleeves, work hard every day, every day, every week for the district. And then when we're done, we're going to go off into the sunset with our beautiful grandkids and enjoy life," Graves said.

Graves joins St. Cloud attorney Anne Nolan and Stillwater businessman Brian McGoldrick vying for the DFL endorsement to challenge Bachmann in November. Members of the 6th District party convention were set to make that selection Saturday. All three candidates have said they'll abide by the party endorsement.
