SAUK RAPIDS, Minn. (KNSI) The Sauk Rapids City Council has approved the expansion of a home for mothers who are struggling with chemical dependency.

Last night, the council voted unanimously to approve a conditional use permit to expand Journey Home on 10th Avenue Northeast.

The facility--operated by CentraCare--is a residential facility that provides chemical dependency treatment for pregnant women and mothers with children 12 and under.

The owners of the facility are asking to add another 16 units to the facility, whicfh currently has 38 units and 76 beds.

CentraCare's Jim Forsting told the council Journey Home has a waiting list of 95 women, and the expansion will allow more beds to more women and children can live there. It has operated at its Sauk Rapids location for the past six years.
