ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KNSI) - A man has been accused of nearly ripping a man's ear off during a fight.

The Paynesville Police Department says at 11:52 on Tuesday night they were called to the 100 block of Washburne Avenue for a fight.

Police say they found a man on the sidewalk lying face down, bleeding from the head, unresponsive, and had a partially severed ear.

The victim was taken to the Paynesville Hospital and later taken to St. Cloud Hospital.

Court records indicate 37-year-old Justin Lee Brown of Paynesville was standing near the victim when police arrived.

Witnesses say the victim was on the ground while Brown punched and kicked him.

Brown told police that he had acted in self-defense during the fight.

He is charged with 1st degree assault. Brown's next hearing is on September 8th.

The assault remains under investigation and anyone with information about the incident should call the Paynesville Police Department at 320-243-7346.
