ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KNSI) - A repeat sex offender will spend at least 18 years in prison after pleading guilty to raping a teenager.

Instead of trying his luck with a jury trial that was set to begin soon, 56-year-old John William Magney pleaded guilty in Stearns County District Court and agreed to a life sentence.

The St. Cloud man will be eligible for parole in 18 years.

Court records show a 14-year-old victim told police that she was watching a movie with Magney last December at a residence on 7th Avenue North in Waite Park and he gave her some of his alcoholic drink.

The girl said the drink made her dizzy, and Magney forced himself on her.

Prosecutors say Magney was previously convicted of sexually abusing a 4-year-old girl in Mille Lacs County in 1982, and a 6-year-old girl in Benton County in 1997.
