ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KNSI) - A man is in critical condition after being shot in Waite Park Monday night.

It happened at 255 Waite Avenue North, across the street from the Crossroads Center, just after 8 p.m.

The Waite Park Police Department says a Stearns County Deputy was driving by when they were flagged down by a witness to the shooting.

The deputy turned his squad car around and saw an armed man directly in front of him.

The 54-year-old suspect, from St. Cloud, was taken into custody without incident.

Police say his identity will be released at a later time.

The victim, a 36-year-old man from Waite Park, was rushed to St. Cloud Hospital where he's in critical condition with a gunshot wound to the chest.

Police from various agencies responded to the shooting and shut down Waite Avenue North between 3rd Street North and 1st Street North.

Crime scene tape could be seen up across the road and also encircling a house.
