MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (AP) Minneapolis voters will have 35 candidates to choose between in the mayor's race this November.

Filing closed on Tuesday for Minneapolis city elections. The city is picking its first new leader for the first time in a dozen years, following incumbent Mayor R.T. Rybak's decision not to run for a fourth term.

The field includes council members Betsy Hodges and Don Samuels, former councilwoman Jackie Cherryhomes, Hennepin County Commissioner Mark Andrew, attorney Cam Winton and a number of lesser-known candidates.

The latter group includes some offbeat choices, including an Occupy activist who calls himself Captain Jack Sparrow, and a frequent candidate who lists himself as Bob "Again" Carney.

Making the race more unpredictable is the still-new system of ranked choice voting now used in Minneapolis.
