PAYNESVILLE, MN (KNSI) - Good news for travelers in the Paynesville area. The long-awaited Minnesota Highway 23 bypass will open in mid-July about a month ahead of schedule.

Construction on the nearly eight mile long concrete bypass started in April of last year. Some cosmetic work is all that remains like planting roadside grass, painting road stripes, and putting up signs.

There will be three exits off the bypass into the city of Paynesville. And, although taking the bypass won't be any shorter than taking the old Highway 23 route though Paynesville, the 65 mile an hour speed limit on the bypass route should shave several minutes of travel time.

The cost of the project was just over 32-milliion dollars.
