ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KNSI) - More than 200 musicians will perform at 11 different venues in St. Cloud in a new music festival.

Organizers say the three-day Central Minnesota Common Roots Festival will showcase grassroots talent while supporting local businesses during the extensive road construction project that has shut down 5th Avenue South to vehicle traffic.

Dan Barth, Owner of Pioneer Place, says the festival wasn't put together by business owners or the venues.

"It was started by people who really care about downtown, like musicians, who approached us and said we want to do something to help out during the construction, and we think we should do a music festival."

Barth says he thought to himself, "that's a pretty ambitious idea", and before he knew it the event had gained some serious momentum.

Organizers say, through all the jackhammering, they want to invite the entire state to come out and support local performers who are proud of the places that help them make their music and art.
