MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (AP) Members of an American Indian gang are on trial in what prosecutors say is one of the largest gang cases to come out of Indian Country.

Jury selection began Tuesday in federal court for three members of the Native Mob.

Authorities say the Twin Cities-based gang wields power on reservations throughout Minnesota, Michigan, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin.

Thirty-four-year-old Wakinyon McArthur is an alleged ``chief'' of the Native Mob. Authorities say he and two others were part of a criminal enterprise that used violence to keep the gang in power.

All three are accused of conspiracy to commit racketeering.

McArthur's attorney says the allegations aren't racketeering, but rather sporadic, individual acts carried out by disaffected youths. Jury selection continues today.

The trial could take several weeks.
