ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KNSI) - St. Cloud's new water tower was hoisted into place this week as it nears completion.

The new tower, the city's 5th, is on the south side of town off of Clearwater Road, not too far from the McStop.

Pat Shea, Director of Public Services, says the 1.5 million gallon water tower will address pressure issues they've had in the area.

"The ability to get enough water here to fight fires, really to battle more than one fire at a time, and to address those pressure drops."

He says the nearly $4 million dollar water tower should be operational by November 1st and has a life-span of 20 to 50 years.

It was paid for through the EPA grant program and will be paid off over 10 years from part of residents' water bills.

Shea says the new tower looks great from the roadways as people drive into town.

"It's something that I think will make the city of St. Cloud and St. Cloud area very pleased with kind of a gateway welcome to the community."
