ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KNSI) - Patty Wetterling will be honored for her work to stop child sex abuse during a conference in St. Cloud.

The Communication and Theater Association of Minnesota says they are giving Patty their communication in excellence award for her work spreading the message about preventing the exploitation of children since her son Jacob was abducted in 1989.

Patty will speak about her experiences with advocacy.

Her advocacy led to the Jacob Wetterling Crimes Against Children and Sexually Violent Offenders Act being passed in 1994.

She will be presented the award at 1:40 on Friday, September 15th.

The Communication and Theater Association conference is at the St. Cloud Holiday Inn September 15th-16th.

In September 2016 Jacob’s remains were found buried in makeshift grave near Paynesville.

Jacob's murderer confessed to the crime and led authorities to his remains.
