ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KNSI) - A street was shut down and some businesses closed as police responded to investigate a suspicious item in St. Cloud.

The police department says officers went to the 10 block of 15th Avenue South around 11 a.m. Thursday on the report of a small item near some dumpsters.

Police believed the item looked like some type of homemade explosive device, so they placed armored vehicles around the item to shield the blast if there ended up being one.

The Minneapolis Bomb Squad checked out the item and confirmed it to be a 'simple homemade device'.

The police department says the bomb squad was able to make the device safe and it was removed without incident.

The case is active and being investigated by the St. Cloud Police Department Criminal Investigative Unit.
