ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KNSI) - A man was arrested after authorities had to bump into a car to stop it from driving away from a traffic stop in St. Cloud.

The PIT maneuver (precision immobilization technique) was performed on the car near the Pilot Travel Center on County Road 75 a little after 9 p.m. Sunday.

Court records show the Minnesota State Patrol was investigating a driving complaint on Interstate 94 but the driver refused to pull over.

Troopers caught up with the car at the Pilot and ran the ID of the driver, a woman, and a male passenger.

Court records show the man gave police a false name and locked the doors to the vehicle.

Police identified the man as 24-year-old Devante King, who has addresses on file in St. Cloud, Waite Park and Little Falls.

The trooper learned that the woman driving the car had a DANCO (domestic abuse no-contact order) against King, and that two children were in the car.

The trooper ordered King out of the vehicle, and says he saw the man grab the car keys and start the vehicle.

The woman pressed the gas pedal and started to drive away, and that's when the PIT maneuver was performed to stop the vehicle.

King was arrested on charges of domestic assault, giving a peace officer a false name and obstructing the legal process.

He also had a warrant out of Hennepin County for a DANCO violation.
