ST. PAUL, MN (KNSI) - When it comes to rental housing choices for low-income Minnesotans--their options are pretty tight. That's according to a new report out today from the Minnesota Housing Partnership.

The report shows 94% of Minnesota counties have a shortage of available low-income housing. And the partnership's executive director Chip Halbach says Stearns, Benton and Sherburne counties are among the 15 counties statewide with the lowest number of affordable units for extremely low-income renters.

Extremely low-income renters include families earning just 30-percent of the area median household income or less. Halbach says when you factor in inflation, renter incomes have been falling, but rental rates for housing have been holding steady or even increasing.
