SARTELL, Minn. (KNSI) - The city of Sartell is getting ready to open up the discussion on whether or not to allow farm animals in residential areas.

Sartell city planning associate Therese Haffner tells KNSI News the topic was brought to light by a citizen inquiry into city ordinances which would allow him to keep chickens on his property.

Haffner says Sartell's planning commissioners have agreed to review the topic tonight during their regular meeting and possibly recommend it for further study.

Haffner says the city hasn't received many inquiries when it comes to chickens and other livestock in residential areas up to now, so a discussion is crucial.

The meeting of the commission begins at 6:30 at Sartell City Hall. The item is not up for public input at this time.

In recent months, both Benton and Stearns counties have loosened the requirements regarding the keeping of chickens in residential neighborhoods.
