SARTELL, Minn. (KNSI) - The former Verso Paper Mill in Sartell has been officially sold - though exactly what it's destined to become is still unknown.

Sartell Administrator Patti Gartland tells KNSI she and her office were informed of the transaction between Verso and a company called AIM Development LLC yesterday afternoon. Gartland says at this point, they don't know anything about the company, and are "waiting by the phone" for information from the Verso site manager on contacting AIM.

Gartland says, whatever kind of business AIM is bringing to Sartell, they'll have to work closely with the city through any demolition and/or reconstruction of the Verso Mill site.

"Whatever [AIM] is planning to do, it's going to have to comply with the underlying zoning," Gartland says. "If they're looking at doing any kind of demolition or redevelopment/subdivision, there are formal review and approval processes. So, unless they were intending to reopen in the same form and format prior to the closing of the mill, there's going to be a multiple step process for the city in working with them."

Gartland says they're looking forward to sitting down with AIM Development to "put something good in place" on the property.

According to the Minnesota Office of the Secretary of State, AIM Development registered with state of Minnesota on Monday. The two year old company is based out of Wilmington, Delaware, but neither KNSI News nor the city of Sartell have yet been given contact information for the company.

The former Verso plant has been unused since the Memorial Day fire and explosion in 2012 that killed one worker and injured several others.
