ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KNSI) - The Sartell Police Department says the city's roundabouts make the roads safer and has posted a video to help people navigate them.

The police department says the roundabouts have resulted in a reduction in both the number of crashes and the seriousness of crashes.

They say the traffic flow has also improved compared to a stoplight.

We spoke with one local driver who is all for roundabouts.

"I think it's way more convenient to just have to yield for a couple of seconds, as opposed to staying at a stoplight for like five minutes," Tyler Markfort from Foley said.

Officials say roundabouts are being used in Sartell because a roundabout at the right location will let you get through the intersection quicker and safer.

Police say roundabouts show an 89-percent decrease in fatal crashes, a 74-percent decrease in life-altering injury crashes and a 39-percent decrease in all crashes.

"I mean I have heard about people going into it backwards and stuff like that, mostly like older residents and such, but I haven't had any problems with it," Markfort said.

Authorities say the roundabouts result in better fuel efficiency and air quality.
