SAUK RAPIDS, Minn. (KNSI) Sauk Rapids is joining the St. Cloud Regional Human Rights Office.

The vote Monday night by the Sauk Rapids City Council was 4-to-1 in favor. Mayor Brad Gunderson cast the dissenting vote.

Sartell and St. Joseph have also joined the regional office, which investigates charges of discrimination. Waite Park and St. Augusta turned down the offer to join. Their council members were concerned about adding another layer of government to investigate complaints.

Cities that belong to the Regional Human Rights Office will have reprsentation on the board. Waite Park and St. Augusta residents can still bring complaints to the board, even though their cities have not joined.

St. Cloud Mayor Dave Kleis announced at his state of the city speech in April that area cities could join the office--free of charge--for the next two and a half years.
