SAUK RAPIDS, Minn. (KNSI) - The city of Sauk Rapids is gearing up to make the move to a single-hauler garbage collection system.

During their regular Monday night meeting, the city council reviewed and discussed the transition, which has been in the works since last year.

City administator Ross Olson says the city-wide switch to Allied Waste will start on June 24th, when residents will be asked to leave their bins on their typical collection day, in the usual place, for their last collection. He says Allied will be around within the next couple of days to follow with replacement bins.

Olson says, of the 3,400 residents who will be served by Allied, around 2,000 are already customers.

He says residents can reach out to Allied in the next few weeks and request what size container they would like, but if they choose not to, the company will simply pick up their old bin and replace it with one of the same size.

A 30-35 gallon container will run $6.45 per month, a 60-65 gallon container will be $7.45, and residents will pay $8.45 for the 90-95 gallon container.

Olson says garbage will be picked up be every Tuesday, with recycling collected every other Tuesday.

For more information, residents are asked to call city hall or visit the Sauk Rapids City Government website.
