ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KNSI) - A St. Cloud police officer was recognized at the Minnesota Twins game Tuesday night for being the top DWI Enforcer All-Star in the state.

Officer Darin Vossen made 206 DWI arrests in 2016, more than any other officer in Minnesota.

"It’s an honor to be recognized as the top DWI enforcer in the state," said Officer Vossen.

"However, I believe every trooper, officer and deputy who takes even one drunk driver off the road is a hero who has potentially saved a life. It’s my hope that one day I won’t be able to find any drunk drivers on the road because that will mean everyone is making the smart choice of finding a sober ride."

The Minnesota Department of Public Safety recognized 43 law enforcement officers for their efforts in keeping roads free of drunk drivers at Tuesday night's Twins game.

Stearns County Sheriff's Deputy Chad Meemken was named an All-Star for his 40 DWI arrests in 2016.

In 2016, the department of public safety says All-Stars made more than 2,600 DWI arrests across the state, protecting countless lives from being changed forever.

The All-Stars, along with law enforcement, helped reduce the number of drunk driving-related fatalities in 2016.

Preliminary numbers show there were 74 drunk driving-related fatalities last year, a 22 percent drop from 2015.
