COLD SPRING, Minn. (KNSI) The gun used to kill Cold Spring police officer Tom Decker on November 29th has still not been found.

The Star Tribune reports investigators Thursday were preparing to do another search of the Sauk River in Cold Spring for the 20-gauge shotgun they believe the killer used to shoot Decker twice in the head.

A source told the newspaper authorities at the scene found a spent shotgun shell--a type that had contained a solid lead slug rather than shotgun pellets.

Authorities planned to use underwater scanning equipment to search the river--which is just four blocks from the scene of the shooting behind Winner's Bar.

Decker and a second officer were checking on the welfare of 34 year-old Ryan Larson when Decker was shot. That second officer--who works part time for the police department--has not been able to recount important details of the shooting. A source who spoke to the Star Tribune says that officer's failure to provide crucial information has been a "critical roadblock" to solving the case.

arson was arrested an hour after the shooting and was held in jail for more than four days before he was released because of a lack of evidence in the case. Larson says he was sleeping in his apartment above Winner's Bar when Decker was shot.
