ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) Authorities in St. Paul are working to determine how to proceed safety with the recovery effort for a child who's been missing since a rockslide killed a classmate and left two others injured.

Rain-saturated soil gave way Wednesday afternoon as fourth-graders on a fossil-hunting field from a St. Louis Park elementary school walked along a path near the edge of the Mississippi River bluff in Lilydale Regional Park.

St. Paul Fire Marshal Steve Zaccard says firefighters and police are working with geologists to assess conditions at the site, which is at the bottom of a 30-foot cliff. He says it's going to be a "very, very slow operation."

When work resumes to find the child, a special rescue team will use ropes and harnesses to get to the site.
