ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KNSI) A Sauk Rapids teenager charged in the death of Colton Gleason in St. Cloud last month was back in court Tuesday.

Prosecutors are seeking to try 17 year-old Jesse Smithers as an adult, and much of yesterday's hearing focused on attempts by the Stearns County Attorney's Office to have him tried in adult court.

Judge Frank Kundrat will review the request to determine whether there is probable cause to continue with the adult certification process. If he allows it, a contested certification hearing will be held November 27th.

Smithers is alleged to have punched Gleason in an alley the night of September 20th as Gleason was walking two women home. Gleason fell and his his head and died the next day.

Smithers is charged with second-degree murder, first-degree manslaughter and first-degree assault. He remains in custody. Smithers--through his attorney--has denied any involvement in Gleason's death. St. Cloud police arrested him after receiving tips from the public.
