ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KNSI) - Public schools in the St. Cloud area will once again be closed Tuesday due to the extreme cold.

Sauk Rapids Rice, Sartell St. Stephen and St. Cloud's District 742 all announced they will not have classes for a 2nd straight day. Foley public schools along with Maple Lake and MOnticello Public Schools made their decisions earlier today. All this comes after the education department left the decision on Tuesday classes up to individual districts following word that Governor Dayton would not issue a state-wide closure for a second straight day.

Sauk Rapids Rice Superintendent Dan Bittman says the schools in the area made the decision together due to the issues possible with transportation due to ice on the road. Bittman says buses would be delayed, leaving some kids to stand and wait in the cold. A decision on Wednesday classes will be made later in the day on Tuesday. Bittman says all signs point to classes being open again Wednesday due to the temperatures bouncing back late Tuesday.

Typically in Sauk Rapids-Rice, Bittman says they do not make up the first emergency day, but will likely be required to make up the 2nd emergency day.
