ST. CLOUD, MN (KNSI) - The National Weather Service says the 10 month period that ended in April was the warmest in recorded history in St. Cloud.

Heating and cooling degree days are used to track energy needed to heat or cool a building. The lower the total degree days, the warmer the overall month or season. St. Cloud recorded 6,533 heating degree days since last July 1st. The normal number is almost 82-hundred.

The previous record came in 1920 and 1921 with 6,904 heating degree days. The Weather Service's Ross Carlyon says the warmest 10 month period coincides with the warmest winter recorded, and the warmest month of March on record in St. Cloud.
